FAQs
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Many people come to therapy because they feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in relationship patterns, struggling with low self-esteem, or simply want to understand themselves better. Counselling offers a safe, confidential space to explore what's happening and find a way forward.
It's normal to feel nervous about your first session. It is important to remember that there is no pressure to share and we will go at your pace. You are always in control of the session and it takes a few sessions to build a level of trust. We will start by chatting about what has brought you to counselling, what you'd like help with, and what you hope to gain from therapy. Tears are very welcome but its ok if it takes time to feel comfortable with me.
This varies from person to person and there is no obligation to attend a set number. Some clients find a few sessions helpful, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper issues and patterns. We can review your progress together and decide what feels right for you. The best progress is made with regular attendance and commitment which is why I offer a small discount if you book 10 sessions in advance.
Attachment-focused therapy explores how your early key relationships may have influenced how you feel about yourself, how you relate to others and how you feel others will respond to you/your needs. Attachment is all about connections. We connect (or attach) to others to feel safe. Understanding these patterns can help you build healthier relationships, improve self-esteem, and develop a greater sense of emotional security.
Absolutely! Self-esteem is the value we place on ourselves and it is often destroyed through life experiences, relationships, judgement, shame and messages absorbed in childhood. Therapy can help you understand these influences, challenge negative beliefs and develop a kinder, more compassionate relationship with yourself.
